Holy Bible
Quite simply, the most important book in the history of the world. Everyone should read this book at least once!
There are loads of different versions but for me the best is still the New International Version. It's an excellent all-rounder, great for studying or reading for discovery, the poetry reads like poetry and the spectacular reads truly spectacular! But another version which is well worth getting hold of is "The Message" by Eugene Patterson. It's not a direct translation, more of a paraphrase, but it is brilliant if you fancy reading the Bible in modern but intelligent English. Although, it wouldn't surprise me if the language seemed a bit dated in a few years.
