This song is about declaring your love and admiration for someone, but denying it with your actions. Specifically, it's about people who call themselves Christians, but who live in a way which is contrary to the teachings of Jesus.
It started out after a 'chance' meeting with a Christian friend, and being somewhat disappointed by their actions which I, in a moment of self-righteousness, thought were an obvious lack of interest in living the way Jesus taught. As the song developped, I quickly realised how wrong I was to judge my friend, particularly as I was exactly the same! So what started out as a song observing others, turned into a song to myself.
The song reminds me that we can be far too quick to judge others, without looking at our own lives first. (Matt 7:1-5; Luke 6:37-42) And also that the only person who really has the right to comment, is the person to whom we are declaring our love: in the case of this song - Jesus. (John 14:15,21,23-24)
The audio version on this page is taken from a concert I did on the Busic-Hall supporting Babel in 2009.

You Say That You Love Me
You say that you love me,
You say that you care,
But I don't believe you
'Cos I've seen the way you act when you think I'm not there;
The way you talk about me,
The way you use my name.
I'm tired of making excuses,
I'm tired of playing games.
So if you love me let it show,
Don't treat me like you don't want to know.
I am not your toy, I am not your game
I will not be played for a fool again,
No, I will not be mocked and made to look a fool.
I've been here waiting,
Waiting for you to call.
You say you've been too busy,
Busy doing nothing at all.
But when you want something from me
You call my name out loud;
You're so fickle in your affection
I wish your love was either hot or cold.
You say one thing then you do the other,
You say you love me but you hate your brother,
You say you love truth but your life is a lie;
If this carries on
One day I'll be gone
And you'll be left wondering why...
So please won't you hear me,
Won't you change your ways?
I can't wait forever and it
Feels like we're in our last days.
The clock it keeps ticking
And the time is rushing on,
I don't want to leave you behind
But I won't force you to come home with me.
I'd love you to come home with me,
Won't you please come home with me?
